I'm going to start talking now about stuff. I think this is going to be a stuff week.
First stuff topic: TV shows.
When I lived at home I loved watching TV. There would be TV after school, TV during supper, TV at night, TV late at night, TV on the weekends, TV when I was sick, and TV when I pretended to be sick(I swear I didn't feel good when I got up, Mama, but I just wouldn't go to school when I started feeling better).
When I was sick and "sick", if I was lucky, there would be good cartoons or a rerun of a show I enjoyed on. Case and point, Fairly Odd Parents or That 70s Show. A lot of the time when I was sick, however, there would just be soap operas. Soap operas and really bad movies.
There was one incident where I was legitimately sick for at least a week and I got hooked on General Hospital. I think the arc at the time included memory loss about a rape and relationship dramas and general hospital mishaps (see what I did there?). Typical soap opera fare. But, if I want to be completely honest with myself and you guys, I got hooked. When I went back to school, I would look at the clock at 1:30 and start freaking out. What's happening to the characters?! Did *blank* get her memory back? Did *blank* and *blank* get into another fight? The possibilities were endless. Needless to say, my membership in the soap opera fan club ended quickly.
But there were always shows that I loved to watch week after week. I think it all really started with the anime lineup Friday nights on YTV, specifically Inuyasha. If you don't know what that is... well, don't worry about it. It's the story of a half dog demon that wants to become a full demon but doesn't really and there's this girl who comes from the future (the story takes place mostly in the Feudal Era of Japan) but is really the present for us and it turns out that she is the reincarnation of a priestess that this half dog demon was in love with. Then they go on a REALLY LONG (and I stress the REALLY LONG) journey to find a crystal that was shattered and become friends with a demon slayer and a perverted priest and a fox demon. Oh, and there's also Inuyasha's full demon brother who is bad, and another guy who is bad, and a whole bunch of other stuff. You could watch the series, but it's gone on for years now. Even the manga series is crazy long. But that was my introduction to regular show watching. Then came Naruto and Witch Hunter Robin, more animes.
After that, I grew to really like Ugly Betty. If you have never heard of Ugly Betty... ARE YOU SERIOUS?! I think what I loved most about the show was the fashion aspect... Yeah.
Other favourite shows of mine over the years include Pushing Daisies, Ace of Cakes, The Real World, Battlestar Galactica, Lost (lost track of that after the 3rd season... but watched the finale), ANTM, The Office, The Simpsons, Sweet Sixteen, Corner Gas, SNL, and I'm sure there are a few more, but I can't seem to remember. Oh well.
Hockey, however, has ALWAYS been a staple in my TV watching. Both my brother and my father love to watch it, and my mama likes it to(or not, apparently. She just enjoys the music that's played between plays. Don't blame her there!), so I guess we all just grew to enjoy watching the games. However, my mama didn't quite like watching it at supper, when the games were usually on. But there was at least one game on a night, and Hockey Night In Canada all day practically on Saturday.
Now I don't watch many new TV shows. Except for Glee. Yes, I'm a Gleek. I will admit that the writing the majority of the episodes is not great, but I love how relevant it is to society right now. I also love how Glee is bringing Broadway to a whole new audience, because, well, Broadway and the musical style is something that I absolutely love. So that's that.
I am proud to admit that I love shitty TV too. Yes, you heard me. Proud. Some of my all-time favourite shows are "real", "non-scripted" shows. This list includes Paris Hilton's My New BFF, ALL of the Shot At Love seasons, The Surreal Life, The Jersey Shore, Sweet Sixteen, The Hills, and others. Maybe I'm just a sucker for shitty TV deep down, but it is so much fun to watch. I think that's because it's fun to make jokes at these people... Even though that isn't very nice...
Anyway, that's my TV history, I guess. Currently I'm going through the seasons of ANTM. I just finished season 2. Up next? Pokemon, maybe. Maybe some Sailor Moon.
Or maybe I'll just watch the news.
