Oh The Thinks You Can Think!

The above video was one reason I haven't posted consistently... But that's also just an excuse. This was something that a group of my friends decided to get together to do for ANOTHER friend of ours, whose birthday it was. And yes, that is his face on all of those masks.

In other news, I was not cast for the musical I auditioned for recently called Reefer Madness. To be completely honest, I was a little disappointed to begin with considering I have worked really hard to get things going for this show (I'm on the executive for the musical theatre society that's putting this on) and that my audition was awesome. BUT I recently found out that I had been chosen for ANOTHER theatrical piece! Ann-Marie MacDonald's Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)! Apparently both directors had been talking after auditions happened because a lot of people had auditioned for both shows, and they decided that I would be cast as Constance Ledbelly, the main character in the show. Me! A main character! I'm SO excited! Apparently, though, I have more lines than Hamlet... So we'll see how that goes. :P Lots of monologues for Cat!

So that's it for now. Seuss goes up in a little less than a week... And I'm starting to get a little nervous. And I'd say it's allowed considering we still haven't finished all the choreography or costuming and the set is just coming together now... But yeah. Should be fun. :)

Talent! You should watch it!

So last night was the Garnet and Gold fundraiser called Spectacular, Spectacular! The theme was Business Suits and Solar Systems. It was filled with crazy talent, and I think it was a total success.
Anyway, my point for this blog is to show you some of the acts! Unfortunately, I tried to upload some videos directly onto the blog, but it didn't work. SO if you want to watch things, you're going to need to check out my Youtube channel!
http://www.youtube.com/user/JennaStellar
I really recommend that you guys check out some of the acts, because they're all so amazing. As I write this, they aren't all up yet, but they will be soon!

That's basically it. I had two auditions this week, one for the Black Tie musical, Reefer Madness, and the other for a play called Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet). It's a hilarious play about a girl who is researching to prove that R&J and Othello are actually comedies. It's absolutely fantastic. Unfortunately, if I get cast for both, I'll have to pick one over the other. But I don't want toooooooo! So we'll see how that goes. :)

Also, watching a ridiculous show right now. Scared Straight on A&E. Absolutely terrifying. Oh god...

Oh maah gswd. So d5unk.

So drunk. What a fantastic night. G&G Spectacular was awesome. Videos will be posted tomorrow. Sleep now. <3

Please Stand By...

I'm going to start talking now about stuff. I think this is going to be a stuff week.

First stuff topic: TV shows.

When I lived at home I loved watching TV. There would be TV after school, TV during supper, TV at night, TV late at night, TV on the weekends, TV when I was sick, and TV when I pretended to be sick(I swear I didn't feel good when I got up, Mama, but I just wouldn't go to school when I started feeling better).
When I was sick and "sick", if I was lucky, there would be good cartoons or a rerun of a show I enjoyed on. Case and point, Fairly Odd Parents or That 70s Show. A lot of the time when I was sick, however, there would just be soap operas. Soap operas and really bad movies.
There was one incident where I was legitimately sick for at least a week and I got hooked on General Hospital. I think the arc at the time included memory loss about a rape and relationship dramas and general hospital mishaps (see what I did there?). Typical soap opera fare. But, if I want to be completely honest with myself and you guys, I got hooked. When I went back to school, I would look at the clock at 1:30 and start freaking out. What's happening to the characters?! Did *blank* get her memory back? Did *blank* and *blank* get into another fight? The possibilities were endless. Needless to say, my membership in the soap opera fan club ended quickly.
But there were always shows that I loved to watch week after week. I think it all really started with the anime lineup Friday nights on YTV, specifically Inuyasha. If you don't know what that is... well, don't worry about it. It's the story of a half dog demon that wants to become a full demon but doesn't really and there's this girl who comes from the future (the story takes place mostly in the Feudal Era of Japan) but is really the present for us and it turns out that she is the reincarnation of a priestess that this half dog demon was in love with. Then they go on a REALLY LONG (and I stress the REALLY LONG) journey to find a crystal that was shattered and become friends with a demon slayer and a perverted priest and a fox demon. Oh, and there's also Inuyasha's full demon brother who is bad, and another guy who is bad, and a whole bunch of other stuff. You could watch the series, but it's gone on for years now. Even the manga series is crazy long. But that was my introduction to regular show watching. Then came Naruto and Witch Hunter Robin, more animes.
After that, I grew to really like Ugly Betty. If you have never heard of Ugly Betty... ARE YOU SERIOUS?! I think what I loved most about the show was the fashion aspect... Yeah.
Other favourite shows of mine over the years include Pushing Daisies, Ace of Cakes, The Real World, Battlestar Galactica, Lost (lost track of that after the 3rd season... but watched the finale), ANTM, The Office, The Simpsons, Sweet Sixteen, Corner Gas, SNL, and I'm sure there are a few more, but I can't seem to remember. Oh well.
Hockey, however, has ALWAYS been a staple in my TV watching. Both my brother and my father love to watch it, and my mama likes it to(or not, apparently. She just enjoys the music that's played between plays. Don't blame her there!), so I guess we all just grew to enjoy watching the games. However, my mama didn't quite like watching it at supper, when the games were usually on. But there was at least one game on a night, and Hockey Night In Canada all day practically on Saturday.
Now I don't watch many new TV shows. Except for Glee. Yes, I'm a Gleek. I will admit that the writing the majority of the episodes is not great, but I love how relevant it is to society right now. I also love how Glee is bringing Broadway to a whole new audience, because, well, Broadway and the musical style is something that I absolutely love. So that's that.
I am proud to admit that I love shitty TV too. Yes, you heard me. Proud. Some of my all-time favourite shows are "real", "non-scripted" shows. This list includes Paris Hilton's My New BFF, ALL of the Shot At Love seasons, The Surreal Life, The Jersey Shore, Sweet Sixteen, The Hills, and others. Maybe I'm just a sucker for shitty TV deep down, but it is so much fun to watch. I think that's because it's fun to make jokes at these people... Even though that isn't very nice...

Anyway, that's my TV history, I guess. Currently I'm going through the seasons of ANTM. I just finished season 2. Up next? Pokemon, maybe. Maybe some Sailor Moon.

Or maybe I'll just watch the news.

WARNING: PDA

Such a fantastic weekend. Karaoke, indie pop, ham, and cuddles galore.

Classic Cat.

So I've decided that I will give myself one night off a week and it will be on the weekends. Because, you  know, I need a break SO badly, especially only after a week.

So my first week of classes is over, and I am super happy with my classes. Most of them. Fundamentals of music is ridiculously boring, but that's to be expected. The professor is just horrible. I think what I may do is just learn out of the book and hand in assignments when I have to. And occasionally go to class. Basic.

My other classes, however, are fantastic. Music Theatre is everything I hoped it would be and more. The assignments I have for the class are next to none, but I have to lead a discussion on the "Broadway Diva" and my final assignment will consist of me singing a song from a musical and talking about a topic that pertains to the song. I'm thinking "A Little Priest" from Sweeney Todd and talk either about cannibalism or the real story that the musical was based off of. That's still up in the air for me.

For Playwriting, I get to write a one act play. That's it. And a monologue, but that's due Monday. But a one act play! It's gonna be AWESOME!

Then, for Modern Canadian Drama, I do have some actual things to do. A paper, and essay, and a teaching seminar, but that's the same as last semester for the same prof. Regardless, I'm excited.

The only class I have yet to have is my Advanced Shakespeare course, but I'm not worried about that. I love the prof and I LOVE Shakespeare. We have the same birthday, you know! :P

So that was my first week. Now my rehearsal schedule for Seussical is picking up, with only a few days off before the show. In fact, I'm in one right now. I've been here for an hour and half and have done NOTHING. I wouldn't be complaining if I wasn't so tired. Cause I am SO tired. Probably because sleeping in a single bed with my boyfriend is oh so cramped and warm. I ditched the blankets at some point during the night. It was crazy. But I'm glad he's here for the weekend, even if I don't see him a lot because of REHEARSALS. Grrrr... I was planning on going out tonight with him, but I almost feel like I would prefer to stay in and watch a movie with him or something. We'll see what he thinks.

That's basically it. I'll be entering a karaoke competition on the local Dooley's "Uncle Larry's" starting next Friday. The winner of the competition gets $1000! SO entering! :P

K. I'm off now. I'll update tomorrow since I took Friday off...

A Very Special Post

So, there's this person I know.

She kinda really likes Harry Potter and reading.
Some may even call her a nerd.
But she prefers Nerdfighter.
DFTBA.

She also likes to cook.
Bowl headed assistant not always included.

She has a little bit of a dark side...

... But she also has a light side.
Both sides are pretty darn gorgeous.

She's also athletic!
... If you want to call a bungee wall "athletic."

She is artistic...
... Particularly in restaurants.

She is also very musical...

... And sometimes likes to blow things.

Her face is lovingly squishable.

She is in love with an amazing guy.
I'm... a little jealous...

She likes to dress up! As a sad pirate wench...

A dangerous pirate wench...

A wench that sells human meat pies and sings...

Or even as a dead... wench.

She loves animals!
Even ones that aren't her own.

Have I mentioned that she has a GREAT ass?
Cause she does.

She could also rock the Bieber hair BEFORE it was Bieber hair.

She's also one of the only people I know to get excited about socks as presents.
... Other than myself.

She also defeated Darth Vader.
This is why no more Star Wars movies were made.

But through it all...

She has been my prom date...

My pocket-sized travel companion...

My silly buddy...

And my absolute best friend.

Happy birthday, Shannon, my love. I hope your 20th year brings you new beginnings and all the amazingly wonderful things that a stunning, talented, hilarious, magical, smart, fantastic, loving woman like you deserves. I miss you like it's nobody's business. Nobody's but ours.

For good, you have changed me. <3

Love you forever, best friend.

A Quicky!

So here's a quick update for yesterday.

If you say, "Cat! You haven't blogged every day so far! And so early in! You're terrible at regularity," I may have to cyber punch you in the face.

Naw, I won't do that.

See, I went to update last night around 11:30 (still in the day!), but for some odd reason, the text box that allows me to type what I'm typing now would not load. I find that weird, because why would you need it to load? You just put text in here, THEN it gets loaded. Oh well.

Quickly, watched the hockey game last night. First two periods, I had gold in my eyes. It was all I could see. THEN the third period came. I wanted to cry. I actually almost did. I was watching it in a local pub, and you could tell how stressed and upset people were. Heartbroken.

So that's it. I need to have a discussion before class with a couple of people in a group with me. At 8 in the morning! Oh well.

It's because I'm Canadian, isn't it?

Still Going Strong!

Well, I'm proud of myself. I've found time to write for 4 days now! 4 days in a row! Go Cat!

I am a terrible procrastinator. Like, absolutely horrible. I'll sit down to do some reading for classes or start writing a paper and I'll either end up on the computer or I'll fall asleep. It's so bad.

My favourite thing to procrastinate with, other than Facebook, is Dress-Up games. You know, where you have a doll and you switch their outfits/create some of your own. It's been like that since I was in Elementary. I used to make dolls on eLouai, ESPECIALLY the Candybar ones. There were just SO many options for clothing and hair and eyes... Oh man. Hours spent making dolls that looked like me or my friends. HOURS!

Then came deviantArt. I joined this thanks to a friend of mine, but when I joined it, it was to post art and photography, like people usually do on the site. Then I discovered that not only do people post art and photos and fanfiction and the like, but there were also DRESS-UP GAMES! Words cannot express how excited I was. Since discovering this, I have faved so many games that I frequent when I'm bored. Or right now. I'm playing this game right now. Noodle Dress Up Gorillaz are awesome.

Something that came from my love of dress-up is my "membership" on Gaia Online. I mean, you can do, once again, so many things with your avatar! You can look however you want, portray any stereotype you want, whatever! Plus, they have puzzles, my other go to procrastination tool.

*Pssst! If you have a Gaia account, feel free to add me as a friend. JennaStellar*

Also a FANTASTIC procrastination tool is StumbleUpon. When you sign up, you pick a number of topics that interest you, including cooking, drinking, photography, cartoons, tattooing, you name it, it's there. Then, once your choices have been picked, you click the Stumble button and a whole new world opens up to you. This site generates OTHER sites based off of your personal preferences. Like I said, fantastic. Many an hour are waste-I mean, enjoyed, on this site.

So that's me. Sometimes I break the procrastination routine and draw or clean or actually do my work. But that's a little too crazy, even for me.

You know, just in case the person in front of you decides they want to lean their chair back and spill your drink.

Petty Doubts

So, here I am. Back in Sackville. Semester #4.

Not going to lie, I'm excited about my classes. Here's my schedule, as it stands for now.

Mondays: 11:30-12:20: Introduction to Playwriting, 1:30-2:20: Fundamentals of Music 2, 2:30-5:20: Advanced Shakespeare
Tuesdays and Thursdays: 8:30-9:50: Modern Music Theatre, 1-2:20: Modern Canadian Drama
Wednesdays and Fridays: 11:30-12:20: Introduction to Playwriting, 1:30-2:20: Fundamentals of Music 2

Pretty awesome. It's nice to have that one class on Mondays only. Plus, I apparently get a break in the class, as well as let out early on a regular basis.

But as happy as I am for my classes, I wish I was still in Halifax or doing something else. I can't help but have a nagging thought in my head that the classes at MTA are not what I need to pursue theatre on a professional scale. The only thing that's keeping me here and not wanting to go somewhere else specifically is the opportunities I get. I have done so much theatre since arriving here that I would not have been able to do somewhere else. And I'm not saying that the drama program here is bad! Not at all! It gives a really good basic understanding of things, and the professors, for the most part, are fantastic. But I could be learning movement! Specific styles! Construction of sets and costumes! Makeup design! So many things that I want to do that I can't here, unless I go out of my way to do something.

But, deep down, I really do love Sackville, and I really love MTA. So I'll stay. I mean, I've already signed a lease for next year.

ANYWAY, off to Ducky's. The game's on, and I don't want to miss another minute!

Love my new camera.

A Much Needed Break

So for the past couple of days, I've been chilling in Halifax with Chris, and let me tell you, it's been amazing.

First, the day after I got here was New Years, so I got to celebrate with him. First legit New Years kiss? Check. Fancy party dress? Check. Drinking with friends? Check. It was QUITE an enjoyable night, one I won't forget in a long time.

Then, on the first full day of the new year we did... Nothing. Absolutely nothing. It was pure bliss. We stayed in bed until 2-ish (I stayed in bed until 6-ish), watched a movie, and relaxed. Nothing of interest there.

Then, today, Chris took me to a new restaurant in town called Mix. Let me tell you, the food there was amazing. And filling. I got a lobster and bacon macaroni and cheese. Trust me, it's as good as it sounds. Chris got the breakfast poutine, which was SO good. We're talking eggs benedict on top of home cut fries with so much cheese. After that we headed to the cupcake store which, to my dismay, was closed, and to HMV, then finally to Dave's Tea, a newer store on Spring Garden that sells a huge variety of loose leaf teas. After that, we spent a good half hour to an hour in Starbucks, being snobbish hipsters. Or just nauseatingly cute. Take your pick.

Now we're back at the apartment. Currently on the to do list is play some Wii... But wine and spaghetti are also there for later.

So, I guess that's it for today. Nothing extravagant, but I'm sure I'll get into different things later. Feeling lazy now. May go jump on the boy. He's enjoying a massage. May surprise him. May not.

A Fresh Start

So, I've never really done this before, but it's one of my New Years resolutions. So here we go.

I guess I'll start with basics about me. My name is Cat, and I'm a 19 year old student studying theatre and music at Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB, Canada. When I'm not at school, I stay with my family in Fredericton, NB, or I'm off visiting my boyfriend in Halifax. Let's call him Chris. I love acting, singing, and dancing, but I also dabble in art and photography. Typical artsy person. I also love video games and reading. And I think that's it. For now.

I guess I'll start on my resolution. I was sitting at home over the holidays, doing nothing as I like to do when I have nothing else to do, when I started thinking. I didn't have a record of things that I did. I mean, I remembered things that I did, but I didn't have a journal, so to speak. So, I decided to start a blog. A DAILY blog. That's the important part. I also have a problem with starting something and not following through, evident through various projects I have started and then stopped. This includes taking my Cold-FX.

I should start that again.

The blog will hopefully also help me with my writing. As told my a professor of mine recently, I have very conversational writing. I think this is because I don't write enough. So I'm going to try and get out all of my conversational writing here in this blog. It will also get me in the habit of going over my work. See? Helpful!

Regardless, this is going to be a blog of my daily shenanigans, I guess. Somedays it will be a full out post, other days it may be a quote or a picture that I really like. But whatever it is, it will be daily. This I promise myself.

So, I guess that's it for me, at least for now. Until tomorrow. I swear. I've got to start being regular at something.
