A Year in Review Pt. 1

Hey guys! So it's been a year since I started this, and although I did not stay true to my initial goal of blogging every single day (how CRAZY was I?!), I did have fun blogging occasionally.

But because I updated so inconsistently, there were a lot of things that didn't get said. So here is my year in review... with pictures!

January

I started the new year in Halifax with Chris. We went to the dinner theatre where he works, and I got to watch them perform their Christmas show one last time. Then, once the show was over, it was party time!
Rivals for my ruv.

Whipped cream up your nose! HAH!

Then it was back to Sackville for - sigh - school. But on top of school, I had Seussical!

Being the Cat was amazingly rewarding and I look back on this rehearsal and show with fond, fond memories. The most amazing part is having people STILL tell me how much they loved the show. Even last night, I had a friend say that he's had a friend crush on me since Seussical. Cute, right?
End of Act 1 - LOVING my life right here!

The cast and crew! Can you find me?

But the BEST thing was a surprise visit from Shannon!
So many wonderful, WONDERFUL snuggles. <3
February

After Seussical, Shannon, Chris and I ditched Sackville for a few days and stayed at Chris' apartment in Halifax! It was nice to relax after such a hectic month, even if I was only out of town for a few days.We went to malls and wandered downtown, just hanging out and stuff. Then I went back to Sackville and Shannon went back to BC.

School went on as normal, but theatre wasn't done for me. In February, I got involved in a couple of new things. The first was the show "Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)", a play by Canadian play write Ann-Marie MacDonald. SOMEHOW I got the lead role of Constance Ledbelly and got to work with Order of Canada recipient Mary Vingoe, who is holding the Crake Fellow position here at MtA. Not only was I surrounded by some of my best friends, but the rehearsals really enabled me to work outside of my normal comfort zone. I had a blast.

The other was my first experience as a costume designer! I designed for the musical "Reefer Madness" that Black Tie Productions put on. I'm also on the executive for the society (VP Society, what what?!), so my time was consumed with costuming AND social events.

Other than that, my February was pretty relaxing.

March

Crazy month! Like, straight up. Here we go.

FIRST! I was a part of a flash mob in my school's meal hall during an open house. We danced to Double Dream Hands which is the most fun thing EVER. I discovered it randomly one night, and it took MtA by storm. For the flash mob itself, we dressed up in really colourful clothing, like these!
Straight up Gs.

Also, in that duck is one of my best friends.

Then right after this was the Black Tie Annual Fundraiser! Members of the cast, crew, and exec got together to put on a night of entertainment to raise some money for "Reefer Madness" and it was super fun! You can watch the acts here! And you won't be disappointed. This stuff is hilarious.

Then the actual show itself started. Based off of a PSA film about the "dangers of smoking the reefer", "Reefer Madness is HILARIOUS. As upset as I was that I could not be a part of the cast, it was nice to have such a creative role as costume designer. The show went really well, and I think everyone had a blast!

RIGHT after that (and I mean right after), "Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet) opened and that was amazing. Getting to play Constance every night was the most rewarding experience ever.
To th' baths! To th' baths!

I found a golden ticket!

 Oh... my appendix... thanks?

L to R: Sean (Iago, Romeo, Ghost), me (Constance Ledbelly), Mary Vingoe (director), Becca (Desdemona, various other roles), Rena (Juliet, various other roles), Hector (our turtle) Chelsea (stage manager)
FRONT ROW: Spence (Prof Night, Othello, Tybalt)

And that was my crazy, crazy March.

April

Slightly less busy, but busy none the less. We started with a play reading. The first play, in fact, to be put on in Windsor Theatre. It's called "Ubu Roi" and is the most ridiculous play. So a bunch of us dressed up silly and read to a pretty full audience!
You wouldn't guess it, but I played a prince. A sexy prince. With a lisp.
But before my second year could end completely, a car full of friends decided to go check out a Picnicface show in Halifax! Picnicface is a sketch and improv group based out of Halifax that has recently been gaining notoriety with a movie (Roller Town), a TV show (linked above) and a book! Seeing them live was fantastic, especially when Becca and Pat got married by one of the troupe members, Evany!
I now pronounce you wolf hoodie and bride.

On my 20th birthday, I flew across the county to Vancouver where a play of Chris' was being performed! It was nice to be back in BC. The thing that I missed the most was probably the mountains.

We did the typical touristy things, like going to the aquarium and metro town mall, but we also went to my hometown for a few days! While there, I got this little beauty.
See what I did there?

Yes, it's a tattoo! I got it 5 days after my 20th birthday. Lucky for me, I had a friend in town who did tattoos! I was really happy, and still am really happy with it.

A huge thanks once again to Bailey who let Chris and I crash at her place in Vancouver and Mary in Kamloops! Also to Steff for driving us EVERYWHERE!

And those were my first 4 months of 2011. We'll do this in 3 installments, because otherwise they'd be WAY too long. So, coming up next: the summer!
